Flux Rotherham asked me to be one of their lead artists for the Roots Festival, which this year had a theme of ‘Moving Meadow’. I was tasked with working with primary schools in Rotherham and with the general public, to create large scale paper flowers to transform the parade crowd into a ‘Moving Meadow’. Over the course of the programme I worked with approximately 200 children and local residents to create colourful collaged paper flowers and crepe paper flower sculptures.
I also worked with Relentless Youth, a group in Masborough to create a banner that would lead the parade group.
I was also asked by the Children’s Capital of Culture team to run workshops with primary schools the day before the festival. Our venue was a giant inflatable bug tent! During the fast paced day, I ran 4 x 1 hr sessions with different primary school groups. We created collaged paper butterflies that could be carried in the parade amongst the meadow.
On the day of the festival, I delivered all of the community made flowers, and then returned to the Jitterbug tent to run more drop in workshops for the public where we made collaged flower wands.
