An addition to a garden mural I completed in 2020 on an adjacent wall, this time depicting a sunflower, dahlias and daisies.
Hand painted signage and floral embellishment for Nue Cafe, a brand new cafe and deli on Sharrowvale Road (Sheffield) which specialises in gluten free food. Their logo was their own design, and the brief for the embellishments was something elegant and fine in black with highlights of green. They wanted wheat and barley to feature, which would represent gluten, and that it would stay outside and not be found on the inside!
A mural for a 5 year old girls bedroom, with the brief of “rainbows and unicorns”.
In 2022, I was commissioned by KINCA (Kelham Island & Neepsend Community Alliance) to paint an electric box as part of their Arts and Heritage Trail. The boxes are sponsored by a local business, and local bar, Alder, chose to sponsor mine. They wanted a fantasy beer garden themed design, with people drinking beer along a river to reference the river Sheaf which runs through Kelham Island.
I was asked in the autumn of 2021 to paint an elephant on the external facade of the Elephant Gatehouse, which is part of the Castle Hotel in Bishops Castle. During WW2 several circuses from London evacuated their animals to Shropshire, and an elephant was kept in the Gatehouse. She walked the country lanes and fields with the stablehands and was an amazing sight for the people of the town. I was inspired by the face of the elephant in the beautiful stained-glass on the front doors to create my version, and I colour matched and mixed the striking blue of the existing doors and windows to create a new window for the elephant to lean out of. Elephants are seen throughout Bishops Castle and I’m so pleased I was asked to paint one on the original home of the elephant.
This mural on the back of a garage in an Oswestry garden was inspired by one of my lino prints. The client wanted something to fill the blank wall in their outdoor seating area, and we chose a terracotta orange colour to tie in terracotta plant pots on the patio.
When Hectors Greyhound Rescue got in touch in April 2021 wanting a mural on the side of their main kennel building, I jumped at the chance to paint one. I absolutely love greyhounds, so this job was a dream. They wanted a bright, colourful mural to be the first thing volunteers, stakeholders and potential adopters see when they come to the rescue centre to create the best possible experience. The rescue centre also cares for foxes, badgers and red kites so it was important to include them too.
Back in lockdown during summer 2020, I had a rise in people requesting murals in their gardens. With people spending more time at home, I think they began to see their outdoor spaces in a different way and wanted something bright and positive adding. For this little mural, the client just said they wanted “sunflowers all year round”. I painted this mural bearing in mind that the flower beds will grow in around it as the year progresses, but would still look as bright and cheerful during the winter months.
A stained glass inspired mural with a “secret garden” door for a private outdoor terrace in Wales.
Another lockdown garden mural in Sheffield, brightening up the end of a dark alleyway with a coal tit, foxglove and house number.
Mural in Italian restaurant, Grazie, in Sheffield City centre. The client wanted a stylised depiction of Polignato in Puglia, the region they are from, as well as a map of the Italian regions on the adjacent wall.
I designed and painted two boards for Bolton-le-Sands Cafe Primary School in Lancashire in 2019. Being a Church of England School, they wanted subtle references to religion and the schools mission statement of “Growth, Support, and Community”. Within the mural you can see several motifs of three- referring to the Trinity. I used imagery of plants growing, and people taking care of them to reflect the school’s values.
A mural designed and painted alongside illustrator, Callum Seymour, in highly acclaimed Sardinian restaurant, Domo in Kelham Island. The owners wanted something traditionally Sardinian, depicting the rich culture and celebrating the heritage of the country. We chose an earthy neutral palette to compliment the bold warm colours in the rest of the interior.
VorV got in touch before their opening in 2019 wanting a few pieces to complete the interior of their newly rennovated restaurant. Since the conception of their business plan, the owners had in mind an image of farm animals walking off into the sunset together, after happily visiting their new vegan/vegetarian restaurant. This image was very important to them, and I carried the humour and light heartedness of this idea into the mural in the toilets and corridor.
